Georgia Secretary of State: "There will be a recount of the vote"

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told reporters in Atlanta on Friday morning that there will be a recount of the vote for president in which Joe Biden has taken an extremely thin lead over President Donald Trump. Raffensperger said “With a margin that small, there will be a recount in Georgia.”  He went on to say “When you have a narrow margin, little, small things can make a difference. So everything's going to have to be investigated to protect the integrity of the vote.”

If the margin between Biden and Trump is under half a percentage point difference, a recount can be requested under Georgia law. With that, there are approximately 8,900 unreturned ballots that were sent to military personnel and overseas voters that could be counted, if they are received by 5 p.m. today. As of 3:38 pm Biden and Trump were basically tied with 49.4% of the vote each. The raw numbers, as reported by the Associated Press, show Biden has garnered 2,450,391 votes and Trump 2,448,818. A difference of only 1, 573 votes, well within the 0.5% percentage threshold to allow for a recount

After each county certifies its total, the state will perform an audit before certifying the results. Counties must certify their results by Nov. 13 and the state must certify the results by Nov. 20
