Firefighter George Rubin, Sr. Has Been Bringing The Heat For 70 Years

George Rubin, Sr. has always been a quiet, humble man who has never sought the spotlight. He would be the last person to brag about his incredible 70-year record of service as a firefighter for the Mount Kisco Independent Fire Department. So a group of awed elected officials, grateful guests, and proud family members gathered at the fire department on September 4 to salute Rubin and reflect on his amazing life.

Senator Terrence Murphy, an avid supporter of firefighters and fire responders, led the elected officials honoring the 98-year-old Mount Kisco resident, and presented him with a proclamation in recognition of his dedicated service. Among the other honored speakers and guests were Westchester County Legislator Kitley Covill, Assemblyman David Buchwald, Mount Kisco Mayor Gina Picinich, Mount Kisco Deputy Mayor and Trustee Jean Farber, Mount Kisco Trustee Ise Albanese, and Robert Outhouse, President of the Westchester County Volunteer Firemen's Association. Rubin's wife, Jackie, and sons George Jr., Thomas and James were on hand to celebrate their patriarch's lifetime of achievements.

"George Rubin is a man we can all admire and follow as an example of how a person can lead a meaningful life," said Senator Murphy. "He served his country, helped raise five children and provided for his family. He served his second family, the Independent Fire Company, for seventy years, protecting the lives and property of the residents of Mount Kisco and the surrounding communities. He is a selfless, kind, generous man who passed these qualities onto his children. He can take pride in knowing that his family has continued his legacy by following in his footsteps in serving the community as firefighters."

George Rubin Jr., Rubin's oldest son said, "I want to thank Senator Murphy, Assemblyman Buchwald, Westchester County Legislator Covill and Mayor Picinich for honoring my dad on his 70 years of service with the Mt Kisco Fire Department, plus his serving 8 years in Matawan New Jersey before coming to Mt Kisco. I also want to thank my good friend and fellow firefighter John Marshall for organizing this prestigious event. He is a master at coordinating events such as this. I'm very proud to be one of the few third-generation firefighter families in the Independent Fire Company. To have all three generations here, alive and well is an even greater honor."
