Maloney Votes to Condemn and Combat Hate Crimes

Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) voted to pass resolutions to condemn violence towards historically Black colleges and universities and to condemn the terrorist attack on Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas.

“Hate has no place in America. Today, the House sent a clear message to HBCUs and Jewish communities across America that the country stands united behind them and we will work together to fight hate, anti-Semitism, racism, and violence in all forms,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “No one should be afraid to go to school or to pray. These threats towards HBCUs and attacks on synagogues and the Jewish community will not be tolerated.”

“The Talmud, the code of Jewish law,  teaches that ‘One who saves a single life, saves an entire world.’ We join with Representative Maloney and our United States Congress in applauding the selfless efforts of the clergy, congregants, law enforcement and community of Colleyville in saving lives and truly inspiring America,” said Rabbi Douglas Kohn, Temple Beth Jacob of Newburgh.

“The resolution to condemn threats of violence against our nation’s HBCUs is a welcome measure of support for the many students, faculty, and staff on those campuses who deserve to learn and work in a safe environment, without fear of racism or any form of hatred,” said Marist College President Kevin Weinman. “My thanks to Representative Maloney and the strong bipartisan support of his fellow House members on this resolution.”
