Troop K removes twenty-four impaired drivers from public roadways over the 2021 Super Bowl weekend and makes felony drug and weapon arrests

State Police in Troop K issued 1009 vehicle and traffic law violation tickets during the February 6, 2021 Super Bowl weekend. From 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 through 3:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2021 New York State including two special STOP-DWI details in Westchester and Columbia Counties.

Troopers in Troop K issued 466 tickets for speeding violations, 7 distracted driving violations, 9 child restraint violations, 8 move over violations, and removed 24 impaired motorists from the roadway. In Greenport, New York, the STOP-DWI detail arrested Marcus E. Mitchell, age 37, and Vanessa M. Pinet, age 29, both from Hudson, NY, for three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, a class B felony, two counts of Criminal Possession of a controlled Substance in the 4th degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, all class C felonies, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree, a class D felony, five counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree, all class A misdemeanors. Mitchell was also charged withResisting arrest, and Obstruction of Governmental Administration, both class A misdemeanors. Subsequent to investigation during the stationary checkpoint at the State Route 9G traffic circle in Greenport, Mitchell and Pinet were found to be in possession of approximately 14.7 grams of crack-cocaine, 6.2 grams of cocaine, 15.6 grams of 3,4-Methyl?enedioxy?methamphetamine (MDMA), 6.2 grams of Alprazolam, 0.7 grams of heroin, 4.3 grams of suboxone, and 0.6 grams of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine.

At the time of arrest Mitchell was found to be carrying an illegal .38 Smith & Wesson revolver. Mitchell attempted to run and briefly struggled with the Troopers when the weapon was discovered. Troopers were able to safely take Mitchell into custody without further issue. Both subjects were arraigned before the town of Claverack Court. Mitchell was remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail and Pinet was released on her own recognizance. Both are scheduled to return to the town of Greenport Court on February 9, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. Troop K includes Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Columbia Counties.
