FOOD RESCUE US, the CT based, national food rescue organization based in Norwalk, has received a $5000 grant from the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation to support the expansion of the organization’s food rescue platform into Northwest CT. The program has launched in the Litchfield/Torrington area, has already rescued and delivered 11,200 meals, and will expand into the surrounding area as quickly as possible.
Powered by their proprietary technology, since 2011, Food Rescue US has rescued over 16.5 million meals, saving 24.8 million pounds of food from going into landfill, at a value of over $42 million.
Melissa Spiesman, Food Rescue US National Site Director, said "We are so grateful for this grant from the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation. Clearly they are concerned about hunger in their communities and with their support, we are so pleased to be able to help feed those in need in this area."
