Westport Farmers’ Market Proudly Partners with Remarkable Theater for a Premiere of the Documentary, Bloodroot, on September 20

Westport Farmers’ Market (WFM) is proud to partner with Remarkable Theater to host the premiere of the documentary film, Bloodroot, on Sunday, September 20. The film will be held in the WFM parking lot (50 Imperial Ave)  and home to Westport’s newest outdoor movie venue, Remarkable Theater. Tickets are on sale now; visit the link below.

Bloodroot tells the story of Noel Furie and Selma Miriam, who opened the iconic Bridgeport, Connecticut feminist vegetarian restaurant and bookstore in the 70s and have operated it since. The women – near-weekly visitors to Westport Farmers’ Market from its inception – are the very essence of a local food community. The film is as much about feminism as it is about food.

“Selma and Noel have been long-time supporters of our market and the vegetarian community at large,” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, executive director of WFM, “These women have held me to task many a time and they have guided me through the years. To say they are a Friend of the Market is an understatement.”

To celebrate the release of Bloodroot, WFM has also partnered with three local restaurants to offer tail-gaiting boxed food.

“Maybe it’s my Southern routes,” said Cochran-Dougall, “but there’s nothing like tail gaiting while watching a movie outdoors. We all need safe social interaction now and I can’t think of a more fun way than to honor Selma and Noel’s story than by watching Bloodroot as a community at a community theater supporting community chefs. Personally, I can’t wait and am so proud to be a partner in this event.”
