Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Affogato!
Four questions with Eric Sell, founder of Affogato.
Why did you start your business?
Covid had just hit. I was in the process of transitioning out of a job, and it seemed that there weren’t going to be any jobs available for quite a while. People always asked me: What would you do if you could do anything? The answer always eluded me until one day I remembered how much I enjoyed working at an ice cream shop in high school.
I was concerned about operating an ice cream parlor in the winter so I decided to include coffee on the menu, and Affogato was born!
What is your best-selling product/service?
No surprise, our best-selling product is Affogato! It’s a lot of caffeine and a lot of sugar!
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
We carry Longfords ice cream based in Stamford, stylish spoon-based right here in SoNo, we also use a local paper distributor Russell Hall based in Meriden.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
It’s a continuing evolution as we try to figure out the tastes and demand for products here in SoNo. We started carrying more grab-and-go food items, and we are currently working on a liquor license so that we can offer a double shot of something stronger poured over your ice cream. We are always exploring new ideas, and we love input from our customers as well as our suppliers.
Affogato is located at 132B Washington Street in Norwalk. Visit Affogato online here, and check out their Facebook, and Instagram pages as well!
