Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Vegan Eats!
Three questions with Ashley Baptiste, founder of Vegan Eats.
Why did you start your business?
I started Vegan Eats as a way to give back to the community. I had the vision for it for years before I decided to take the chance on it. People don’t usually put eating healthy and tasty in the same sentence and this is something that I experienced firsthand on my journey. With the options being so limited, I took on the challenge of “veganizing” some of my favorite meals and perfecting my recipes. I wanted to show the world that it’s possible to have a meal that is not only nutritious but delicious as well.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Currently, my best-selling product is the Crunchwrap and it’s one of my favorites too! It’s a burrito filled with plant-based beef crumbles, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and sour cream. I like to put a tostada in the middle for the perfect crunch. I also provide catering services for corporate, social, and private events, which has been growing.
Have you “reimagined” your small business?
I have actually! Being able to work with my clientele firsthand is my favorite part about being a small business owner. However, I have a bigger vision for Vegan Eats. I believe that people should have access to healthier options without the hassle. As a new mom of two, I have not been able to get my business to reach new heights due to a lack of funding. Eventually, my goal is to get Vegan Eats on the road with a food truck and have it grow to be as common as many food chains you see today.
