Wesson Energy Warm Home for Completely Disabled Area Resident

“Keeping my disabled 29 year old daughter comfortable, in the winter and summer months, was virtually impossible before Wesson Energy insulated our home and installed a new boiler,” stated a Waterbury mother whose daughter lives with Cerebral Palsy. Blind, and non-verbal, her daughter is bed ridden and 100% reliant on other people for her care. Being able to maintain a 70 degree temperature each winter is a critical part of that care, and unfortunately, before the work was done, some rooms in their home were often 10 degrees cooler than other rooms. “There was no consistency in temperature throughout the house, so I could not move my daughter to another room without changing the thermostat temperature.”

The temperature fluctuations between rooms, especially when bathing her daughter, created the necessity to use a portable electric heater. And while that helped, the walls remained cold and the room was still very drafty. “For her safety, we keep her bed against the wall, but we couldn’t keep her comfortable with the cold walls and drafty rooms.” her mother stated. Not only did the Ramnath’s require frequent home heating oil deliveries each winter, but their electric bill was quite high as a result of their use of a portable electric heater. Ms. Ramnath believes it is, “important to keep her at home to provide the best possible care. Our home is the only place she has ever known and it is comforting to her.”

As an authorized contractor for the Energize Connecticut’s HES IE-Income Eligible Program, Wesson Energy recently had the privilege of providing a Home Energy SolutionsSM (HES) energy efficiency audit on the home. During the audit it was determined a number of improvements could be made immediately, such as sealing drafty areas around windows and doors. “It was also apparent that the home needed insulation and a new boiler in order to resolve the temperature fluctuation concerns.” stated Jack Starr, Wesson Energy’s Home Performance Division Manager.

Working within the guidelines of the HES IE Program, Wesson Energy created a work scope that included insulating the side walls and supplementing the insulation in the home’s attic, which was funded by the HES IE Program. Also included was the replacement of their old steam boiler. Because the IE program did not cover the cost of this, Wesson Energy donated the labor and materials to install a new boiler. The work was completed in December and Mrs. Ramnath stated, “I couldn’t be any more delighted and thankful to Wesson Energy.”

Through the Energize Connecticut’s HES IE-Income Eligible Program, Wesson is providing Home Energy Solutions audits to homeowners throughout the region to help save money on their utility bills providing year-round comfort and safety. Individuals and families that earn an annual income below the state’s 60 percent income medium may qualify for an audit at no cost to them.

Wesson’s HES-IE programs are performed by the company’s teams of certified energy specialists. “The majority of our customers realize significant savings on their energy bills within a few short months after having an energy-efficiency audit conducted for their homes. On average, audits save a homeowner 20 to 40% on annual energy bills after implementing the suggested changes to a house or apartment,” stated Wesson Energy President, Craig Snyder.
