PHS to Become Mount Olympus!

Get out your togas and come to the forum at Pomperaug High School (PHS), 234 Judd Road, Southbury, when the Pomperaug Theatre Company (PTC) presents "The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza." The comedy written by Don Zolidis will be performed on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 pm and on Sunday, May 4 at a 2:30 pm matinee.

Classic stories of Greek Mythology have been told time and time again by poets and playwrights; now they will be told by PTC high school students. "The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza," will be narrated by two of those students. The "feminist" point of view will be presented by Johnna Fettinger, while the "chauvanist" point of view will be given by Thomas Marinelli. As they present all of Greek mythology (in one evening!) to their audience, some of their fellow classmates assist by acting out the myths as they are being narrated. This production will take you back to ancient times, with a little comic twist. Myths like Pandora's Box and The Iliad come to life as the students use many resources, like Wikipedia, action figures and Barbie dolls, to assist them in giving an imperfect summary mixed with solid mythological facts.

The cast, too large to all be listed here, includes Chris DeAngelis as Prometheus, Daedalus, and Paris; William Linster as Zeus and Menelaus; Hallie Tepperman as Hera; Natalie Dahl as Tricia; Nicole Dannen as Atalanta; and Briana Velky as Pandora and Helen; Cameron Slater is Orpheus and Liz Sankey is Euridice; Savannah Moore plays Rhea; and the real-life twins, Samantha and Nicole Torino are Castor & Pollux. New members of PTC include Jacob Rogotzke as Hercules, Bethany Gracer as The Plant, Armend Klenja as Uranus, Joe Winograd as Achilles; Emily Sweeney as The Therapist, and Mary Trudel as the Guidance Counselor (they did have therapy in Ancient Greece, didn't they? They certainly needed some!).

This performance is directed by PHS drama teacher, Mr. Paul E. Doniger, with much help from assistant director Meghan McCloghry. Members of the PTC crew include Kelly Criswell as Stage Manager, Mike McGaughan as head of the technical crew, Mark Ovensy as head of construction, Alexandra Strofolino as House Manager, and Sophie Stanko as head of the costume crew.

Come and support these talented students at a great performance full of comedy, romance, silliness, and drama. For additional information or to reserve tickets please call the box office at (203) 262-3247 or email.
