Southbury Film Commission Announces Deepwater Horizon is Next Movie Selection

The Southbury Film Commission (SFC) is pleased to announce its movie selection for the next meeting of the Movie of the Month Club, Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m., sponsored by the Southbury Plaza Hotel, formerly known as the Southbury Crowne Plaza, 1284 Strongtown Road.

Anyone interested in movies is invited to join members of the SFC to share in an evening of socializing, playing film related games while communicating ideas and opinions on the selected monthly feature film. Dessert will be provided and a cash wine bar is available.

The SFC will be discussing "Deepwater Horizon," the 2016 American biopic disaster film based on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon, drilling rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. The explosion resulted in the deaths of eleven crew members and released tens of millions of gallons of petroleum into the Gulf, becoming the U.S.' worst ever oil spill.

Chief electronics technician Mike Williams, played by Mark Wahlberg and his colleagues find themselves fighting for survival as the heat and the flames become stifling and overwhelming. Banding together, the co-workers must use their wits to make it out alive amid all the chaos. The film is directed by Peter Berg and members of the ensemble cast include, Kate Hudson, Kurt Russel, John Malkovich and Gina Rodriquez.

Those planning to attend and join the discussion can see the film at their leisure and at the movie theater of their choosing. The film is currently playing in area theaters.

RSVP as soon as possible, as space fills quickly, by calling (203) 262-6213 or email the SFC at southburyfilm@southbury-ct.gov
