Champions of Democracy - Southbury DTC Celebrates Retired Registrar Marie Greene

SOUTHBURY, CT – The Southbury Democratic Town Committee (SDTC) proudly presents Champions of Democracy, a celebratory dinner honoring retired Southbury Registrar of Voters Marie Greene, with special guest Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz serving as keynote speaker. The dinner will take place on Friday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Heritage Hotel, 522 Heritage Road.

The evening will include a cocktail hour, buffet dinner, trivia, prizes, a voting-themed photo booth, and live music. Lt. Governor Bysiewicz will speak on the vital role of civic engagement and the importance of acting on the issues that affect our communities both locally and across the nation.

“This event is a celebration of public service and the power of the vote,” said SDTC Chair Michael Carrington. “Marie Greene exemplifies that spirit, having dedicated 26 years to the Town of Southbury as Registrar of Voters.”

During her tenure, Greene led the Registrar’s Office through several pivotal changes. Under her leadership, the office transitioned from reporting to the Town Clerk to operating under the Connecticut Secretary of the State. She successfully oversaw the transition from traditional lever voting machines to modern electronic tabulators. In doing so, she also preserved a piece of Southbury’s history, including a collection of keys from the old machines.

“Marie Greene is known for her professionalism, deep knowledge of election law, and steadfast commitment to fair and nonpartisan voter service,” said event chair Rich Boritz. “Her dedication ensured accurate voter rolls and the integrity of every election, primary, and referendum. Her legacy is one of modernization and trust. We are deeply grateful for her service,” he said.

The evening promises to bring together civic leaders, local officials, and community members from Southbury and surrounding towns for a night of fun and inspiration.

Tickets are $75 per person. Businesses and individuals may also support the SDTC by purchasing ads in the event program. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
