<p>Connecticut Colonials: A Bus Tour of Woodbury's Earliest Homes&nbsp;March 23rd, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Glebe House Museum &amp; Garden</p><p>The town of Woodbury offers a well-preserved look back to the Nutmeg State's colonial roots. With an exciting amount of homes from it's early colonial settlers still standing, we will explore a collection of some 20 of these buildings, discussing their stories and architecture along the way. We will also stop at several for special interior tours, a one-of-a-kind experience!</p><p>This is a one-time-only tour, space is limited.</p><p>The Glebe House &amp; Gertrude Jekyll Garden will be open at 12:30 for a special open house for our tour guests! Built in 1740, the house includes a beautiful collection of regional furniture. Pomperaug Youth Field Hockey Presents: FUNdamentals of Field Hockey

<p>Whether you are an experienced player or new to the sport, please join us for the FUNdamentals of field hockey! We welcome all abilities, girls and boys, to try or prefect their field hockey skills. The program and curriculum are a part of the USA field hockey FUNdamentals program and is sponsored by Pomperaug Youth Field Hockey.</p><p>Spring Field Hockey will take place at Settlers Park (359 Crook Horn Rd) and be coached by Darren Smallhorn currently the Founder &amp; Owner of DELTA Field Hockey, former US Men's National Team athlete.</p><p>Summer Field Hockey Camp will take place at Pomperaug High School (234 Judd Rd) and be coached by Jessica Reed Roach, a former DI athlete, and collegiate coach at the DI and DIII levels.</p><p><strong><em>Participants will need to bring their own shin guards and a mouth guard. <p><strong>Employment Opportunity: Fire Marshal</strong></p><p>The Town of Southbury is hiring a full-time Fire Marshal. The position is 35 hours/week and offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, sick and personal leave, a defined contribution plan with match, medical, dental and vision insurance as well as life and long-term disability insurance. Salary is commensurate with experience.</p><p>This position is responsible for planning, organizing and administering comprehensive fire inspections, investigations and prevention and education programs in accordance with the Connecticut General Statutes and CT Fire Safety Code.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><p>Supervises department personnel and provides direction to Deputy Fire Marshals.</p><p>Develops and manages the department budget and provides financial oversight of departmental activities.</p><p>Completes building plan reviews for new construction, alterations and additions for all commercial buildings in town.</p><p>Conducts fire inspections in all applicable occupancies to determine the presence of fire hazards and the adequacy of fire protection equipment and systems.</p><p>Investigates local fires and explosions as to cause and origin and prepares reports for the State.</p><p>Follows up on suspicious fires to determine any wrongdoing and recommends enforcement action as necessary.</p><p>Develops and promotes a Community Risk Reduction Program, providing fire safety education to the general public.</p><p>Issues open burning and fireworks permits.</p><p>Certifies day care centers, health care centers and liquor permit premises for State licensing.</p><p>Inspects underground and above ground storage tank operations. Oversees installation of water storage tanks and records removal of fuel tanks.</p><p><strong>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</strong></p><p>Thorough knowledge of Connecticut Life Safety Code, CT Fire Prevention Code and referenced codes and standards.</p><p>Knowledge of community fire protection needs and requirements, Incident Command System (ICS), fire investigation methods and techniques and fire safety and prevention and protection practices.</p><p>Ability to read, interpret and enforce fire codes and regulations.</p><p>Interpersonal skills and ability to foster relationships and deal effectively with officials, business owners, outside agencies, employees, and the general public.</p><p>Written and verbal communication skills necessary to prepare and present fire safety prevention and fire safety education programs as well as reports and correspondence.</p><p><strong>Required Qualifications:</strong></p><p>Must have current and valid State of Connecticut Fire Marshal or Deputy Fire Marshal Certification.</p><p>Graduation from high school plus associate degree in Fire Science or related field.</p><p>Three to five years of supervisory experience related to Fire Marshal or firefighting duties.
