Israeli Chefs, Dancers & Musicians Engage in Feast for the Senses for Hafla & Israeli Independence Day

SOUTHBURY, CT– The Jewish Federation of Western CT is hosting a feast for the senses as they welcome a delegation of chefs, dancers and musicians to celebrate “Hafla" which means "lively party." It will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Jewish Federation of Western CT in Southbury with live music, dance instruction, and a variety of enticing dishes prepared by chefs from the Federation’s partnership region of Afula Gilboa in Israel.

Monica Brustein, from Kibbutz Yizre'el in the Gilboa region of Israel, works in the marketing department of a jewelry factory by day, and by night, she loves to cook, bake and host friends at her home.

Meir Dahan, active in the Israeli Scouts for many years, was born in Jaffa and completed her army service with a trip around the world.  She now lives with her family in Gan-Ner, in the Gilboa.

Orly Sela believes in the healing power of dance and teaches various styles to Jewish and Arab children, specializing in teaching Parkinson’s disease patients and the elderly.

Yuval Brill lives in Kibbutz Ein Harod Ichud in the Gilboa section of Israel and teaches filmmaking, plays piano and sings during ceremonies and cultural events in and outside the kibbutz.

Ora Haviv-Magal was born and raised in Ram On, an Israeli settlement in the Gilboa, and works with people with special needs.

Together, the five Israeli hosts will bring attendees a feast for the senses through music, song, dance and authentic Middle-Eastern dishes. The free event also includes a toast to celebrate Israeli Independence Day, which takes place on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

The Hafla event is being held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Community Function Hall, 444 Main St., N., Southbury. Please R.S.V.P. no later than Friday, May 10, 2019.
