Lu Burke Author Lecture Series Featuring Charles Monagan

On Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 1-2pm, the Southbury Library will be hosting the latest online installment of the Lu Burke Author Lecture Series featuring Connecticut author, journalist, and playwright Charles Monagan.

Charles Monagan has been a writer and editor since 1972, when he graduated from Dartmouth College. During that time he's had his work appear in many magazines and newspapers, including Harper's, Yankee, The Washington Post, Newsday and The Boston Globe. His reporting has won awards ranging from Best Feature in New England from United Press International in 1974 to the City and Regional Magazine's national Gold Medal for Reporting in 1997. He is the recipient of the Connecticut Press Club's Mark Twain 2012 Award for Distinguished Journalism, a lifetime honor. He was the Editor of Connecticut Magazine from 1989 to 2013.

Monagan is also the author of ten books, including five humor books (The Neurotic's Handbook, The Reluctant Naturalist, Poodles From Hell, etc.), Connecticut Icons and the novels Carrie Welton and The Easter Confession. Monagan wrote the book and lyrics for the musical Mad Bomber, which won First Place the 2012 national ANMT Search for New Musicals. He and his wife, Marcia, live in Connecticut, where they raised three children, John, Matt and Claire.
