Southbury's Got Talent a Virtual Talent Competition via Zoom

The Southbury Democratic Town Committee (SDTC) wants to showcase the town’s gifted residents during “Southbury’s Got Talent” (SGT), a virtual talent competition Friday, April 9 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. via Zoom.

“Our community is populated by some very talented artists, but COVID-19 has kept us from enjoying and performing in live recitals, concerts, and plays this past year,” said SDTC Chairman Michael Carrington.

“Our virtual talent show is an opportunity to share your talent with an audience and invite friends and relatives to view and vote while enjoying a fun evening of entertainment,” Carrington explained.

SGT will feature two talent divisions, a Youth Division for ages 4 to 17 and an Adult Division for performers 18 and over. A first prize will be awarded in each division. Prizes include a $100 gift certificate to Senor Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant for the Youth Division and a $100 gift certificate to Mercato Italian Kitchen and Bar for the Adult Division. All other acts will receive a participation prize.

The virtual stage is open to all Southbury residents and all forms of talent, with acts such as singing, dancing, comedy, magic, musicians, stunts, variety, and other G rated, family friendly genres. Single acts, duos or groups are welcome to compete.

The entry fee for contestants is $10 each. Contestants are asked to submit a prerecorded video of their talent not to exceed 3 minutes of performance time.

To enter your act, please visit the SDTC’s website at www.southburydemocrats.com to complete the registration form. Once your form is processed and payment is made, you will receive instructions on how and where to submit your performance video. The deadline to register and submit acts is Thursday, April 1. As performance space is limited, acts will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Winners will be determined by the greatest number of votes received from the audience. Audience members can participate in two ways. Attendance as a viewer is free. As virtual seating is limited, you must RSVP in advance at www.southburydemocrats.com to reserve your seat.

Reservations will be honored on a first come, first served basis.

To VOTE for your favorite act, you can purchase two votes, one vote in each category, for a fee of $10. You do not need to attend the event to VOTE. To purchase votes, please visit www.southburydemocrats.com. Once votes are purchased online, a ballot will be emailed to you.

“We look forward to this being a unifying, community event for residents of all ages,” said former Southbury First Selectman and SGT Chairperson Ed Edelson. “So many town events were cancelled this past year to much disappointment. This is the perfect way for families and friends to gather, support the arts, and shine a spotlight on our diverse and talented Southbury neighbors,” he said.

Proceeds from this event will be used to support the work of the SDTC. Please write to southburydemocrats@gmail.com with your questions.
