Southbury Parks & Rec: Open Swim, Free Throw Contest, New Programs and More

AQUATICS - OPEN SWIM

Open Swim takes place Saturdays and Sundays at the Pomperaug High School Pool from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM until Sunday April 3. (There is no open swim February 19 and 20 due to Region’s winter break).

Passes may be purchased online or in person at the Parks & Recreation office. All passes must be picked up at the Southbury Parks and Recreation office at 561 Main Street South in Southbury between 8:30 AM and 4 PM Monday through Thursday, and Fridays between 8:30 AM and 12 PM. All participants must show their member pass at the pool and sign in at the lifeguard table. Passes will not be sold at the pool

All patrons must wear a mask onto the pool deck, removing it only to swim.


KNIGHT’S FREE THROW CONTEST

The Knights of Columbus will hold its 2022 Free Throw Contest on Friday, January 21 from 7:15 PM to 9:15 at Rochambeau School in Southbury. Boys and girls 9-14 are eligible to enter. Contestants must arrive with parent and age verification as early as 6:00 PM and no later than 6:45 PM. All attendees must wear a face mask. Please contact Art.Zbrozek@gmail.com to indicate attendance no later than 6 PM on January 20th.


NEW! LOVE BIRDS PAINTING CLASS (Ages 13 & up)

Create your own piece of art to take home and display on your wall! Our instructor, Claire, will walk you through step by step in this painting class featuring the theme: Love Birds. Painting sizes are 16 x 20 (without backing). All painting supplies are included. Please wear a smock or an oversized shirt (paint will not wash out of clothes).

This painting class is for ages 13 & up and for all levels of painting - including beginners with little to no experience!


NEW! TINY TOTS CLUBHOUSE (POP-UP PROGRAMS)

Toddlers (ages 3-5) and their parents/guardians will explore fun games and create unique crafts in the Tiny Tots Clubhouse. This program features play-based activities for active tots and the opportunity to explore & make different crafts to take home! This program will featured different themes and be offered on average once a month.

NEW! VALENTINE’S DAY CRAFT CLASS (Ages 5-12)

Join Southbury Parks and Recreation on Saturday, February 12th from 2:30-3:15pm for a special Valentine's Craft Class. Children will make specialty crafts themed for Valentine's Day. Each child will get to make: Valentine's Day cards, design scratch art, animal diamond painting, and a surprise craft! Children will go home with their crafts and a small bag of candy. At the end of the craft class, a game of Bingo will be placed and prizes will be handed out! Parents may stay on-site or drop their child for this program. This program will be held in the Southbury Parks & Recreation – Multipurpose Room.


NEW EVENT! PARENTS' NIGHT OUT: EARLY VALENTINE’S DAY

Ages 5-12. Celebrate Valentine’s Day early this year. Parents can spend their evening with their special someone while Southbury Parks and Recreation will entertain their child on Friday, February 11, 2022. Activities will include a variety of structured activities and games run by our staff. Participants will also have an opportunity to make specialty crafts to take home. Dinner, snacks and beverages will be provided by Southbury Parks and Recreation with pizza and salad purchased from The Mad Greek Pizza.

This special event will take place in the Southbury Parks and Recreation building in the Multipurpose Room. Please enter through the Parks & Recreation entrance only. Drop off will take place between 4:30 PM and 5 PM. Pick up no later than 8:45 PM.

NOTE: If your child has a food allergy, please let Southbury Parks & Recreation know by Monday, 2/7. Register by 2/7.


COMING SOON

NEW! April Vacation Camp. Adventure Day Camp for grades K-5 is featuring a new camp during Spring Break. April Vacation Camp will be held from Monday 4/11 to Friday 4/15. Children will have the experience of Camp during their Spring Break by participating in a variety of camp games, activities, crafts and even a special entertainer. Registration will open the beginning of February.
