Eversource released the following information today in preparation for the storm coming today, Monday, April 13, 2020.

Hazard Wind Gusts Expected Across the State

  • Hazardous wind gusts and rain are expected across Connecticut through the day on Monday, April 13, 2020. The most severe winds are expected across southeast coastal areas afternoon, where wind gusts could peak around 70 miles per hour.
  • Wind gusts of this magnitude have the potential to bring down trees and tree limbs onto power lines, causing damage to the electric system.
  • Eversource is ready to respond and will continue to closely monitor the storm track and conditions and will adjust readiness activities as needed.
  • With many people working and learning from home, Eversource knows how important it is to have power. Eversource will work around-the-clock to ensure any power outages are restored as quickly as possible.

PUBLIC INFORMATION

  • Eversource Community Relations is in touch with our community partners and ready to assist with emergency planning as needed.
  • Eversource is contacting their customers who rely on electricity for medical reasons this afternoon, Sunday, April 12. The phone message will encourage customer to prepare for the potential of power outages and provide important safety information and other resources.
  • Their Media Relations team is sharing important storm preparedness information with their customers on social media this afternoon and is prepared to respond to any media inquiries.
  • They will launch other internal and external communications as appropriate.
  • This Preparedness Briefing will be sent to communities, including state regulators and the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

SAFETY INFORMATION

  • If the power goes out, they want customers to stay safe and comfortable. Get ready for the storm by visiting Outages & Storms on Eversource.com, then click on Storm Preparedness.
  • If you see a downed wire, call Eversource at 800-286-2000 or 911 to report it. Stay as far away as possible from a downed wire.
  • Before you use a generator, make sure it is connected by a qualified electrician. Always operate it outdoors and as far from the house as possible. Keep it away from doors, windows and air vents to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Customers are encouraged to sign up to receive storm outage updates on the channel of their choice (text, email, phone call) at www.eversource.com.

NATURAL GAS SAFETY

  • Do not use your gas stove as a heating source.
  • Make sure you have a functioning carbon monoxide detector installed in your home.
  • If you smell a gas odor in any home or business, leave immediately. Go outside and call 911. Remain outside until Eversource can check the source of the odor.
