Construction of the Heritage Road Bridge, however, is continuing with work now scheduled for Stage 2 on or about Friday, September 2, 2022. Construction of Stage 2 work will continue until the project is completed – on or about October 1, 2022. A month earlier than anticipated.

Detour Info

Heritage Road Stage 2 construction will involve the remainder of the bridge deck. Traffic will now be allowed on the completed Stage 1 deck; however, traffic will only be allowed to travel west into Heritage Village. Traffic leaving Heritage Village will not be allowed and a detour for vehicles leaving the Village will be in effect using Heritage Road, North Poverty Road, Roxbury Road (Rte. 67) and Main Street North. Motorist should follow posted signs for the detour route.

About the project

The project consists of the rehabilitation of both Bridges, which span the Pomperaug River. The project includes rehabilitating the existing superstructure including a new bituminous concrete surface and expansion joints and repairs to the concrete structure below. This repair work will extend the life of both structures approximately 20+-years. The golf cart path, that is below the Heritage Road Bridge will be protected and remain open to golfers for the duration of the project. The final roadway configuration on the rehabilitated bridges will remain the same as existing.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving along any detour route.
