It’s Maple Season Time at Flanders!

Maple sugaring time, a New England tradition, will be starting soon! Each year Flanders taps and collects sap from hundreds of trees both at the nature center and around Woodbury.

We invite anyone with an interest in maple sugaring to attend a virtual volunteer information meeting on Tuesday, January 24 at 7 PM. There will be an overview of the 2023 season and details on the many interesting volunteer opportunities.

Tree tapping day, weather permitting is scheduled for Saturday, February 4. No experience is needed and all ages and families are welcome to come help out. For the purposes of coordination, we are requesting that those planning on coming that day to preregister for one of two times, 9:30AM or 11:00AM.

Tree-tapping volunteers will meet at the Flanders Sugar House. It is located at 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury. These events are free with donations towards the maple syrup-making program welcome.

Tree tapping is just the start of the busy maple season for Flanders! Volunteers are also needed to collect sap and help out at maple sugaring activities such as weekend syrup-making demonstrations and the annual pancake breakfast on March 5 where Flanders syrup will be served!

Interested parties can register for the information session and/or tapping day online on the Flanders website, flandersnaturecenter.org, or by calling the office at 203-263-3711, ext. 12. If you are unable to attend either session but are interested in volunteering during the maple season, then call and we will be happy to match your interests to volunteer opportunities.
