Services Planned for Southbury Resident Trudy (Gertrude) Tanneberger, 96

Trudy (Gertrude) Tanneberger, 96, died on February 8th in Southbury CT. after a long illness. She is predeceased by Robert, her husband of 63 years. Trudy was raised in Queens, NY, and spent many happy summers in Rosendale, NY- a place close to her heart. The family's bungalow provided many stories of simple living in a rural setting. Trudy graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in dietetics, later obtaining a teaching degree in Home Economics from Hunter College.

She and Bob were married in 1952 in Queens Village, eventually moving to Ridgefield, CT where they resided for 40 years before moving to Hingham, MA. While raising her three boys she worked at The Wilton Library, later the Richardson-Vicks Corp and The Ridgefield Library. Trudy was involved in church and community events. She volunteered for Danbury Hospital for over 3500 hours. She also taught religious education classes and participated in many church activities at St. Mary's Church and Sacred Heart Church. Trudy also worked to beautify the town and her neighborhood through an assortment of endeavors.

Trudy enjoyed cooking and was renowned for her strawberry pies which she baked every year for Bob's birthday. She loved exploring her creative side. Trudy gardened, hooked rugs, sewed, arranged flowers and did decorative painting. She enjoyed preparing special meals and was a gracious host to both family and friends.

Trudy is predeceased by her siblings John Klein, Caroline Parry, Rita Klein and Agnes Tanneberger. She leaves behind her sons, Stephen (Dorothy) of Southbury CT, Joseph (Mary) of Charlotte, NC and Michael (Debra) of St. Albans VT; her beloved grandsons, Peter, Andrew and William; her granddaughter Jordan, as well as her sister, Alice Ryan of Melbourne, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1 pm in Sacred Heart Church, Georgetown, CT.

Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 10 am to 12 noon.
