NCC Alumna to appear on Reality TV Show

Norwalk Community College alumna Sarah Edwards, a professional drag racer, will be featured on the History Channel’s reality TV show, “Toymakerz,” at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 14. The show will re-air at 10 p.m. Saturday, April 20 on the FYI channel. It will be seen by more than 157 million people.

Sarah graduated cum laude from NCC in 2013 with an Associate in Applied Science Degree. While at NCC, she majored in Interior Design and was already a regular on the drag racing circuit.

The intrepid racer recently went down to Reidsville, North Carolina, to work with TV host David Ankin on a ToyMakerz car. ToyMakerz is a fabrication shop that builds one-of-a-kind toys and rare and exotic vehicles.

“While I was driving the Queen of Diamonds II Jet Dragster, Ankin proposed an offer to one day build a ToyMakerz car for me,” Edwards said in an article on  DragIllustrated.com. “I was ecstatic to take him up on the offer.”

Sarah developed an interest in racing when she was only 12 years old after visiting Raceway Park in New Jersey with her parents. That night, she saw a young woman drive the Hanna Motorsports Queen of Diamonds dragster and dreamed of becoming a driver herself. She discovered her need for speed.

After graduating high school in 2010, Sarah attended Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School, where she earned a Super Comp license. The following year the Edwards’ family purchased a dragster that could be run as a Super Comp vehicle as well as a Top Dragster.

Sarah established Queen Bee Racing in 2011. Supported by her team (her Mom, Dad and boyfriend) she started racing at Atco Dragway in New Jersey.  For two years, Sarah ran her Queen Bee 565 cubic inch Big Block Chevy dragster in the top dragster races---covering the quarter mile in 7.5 seconds at 180 miles per hour.

In 2013 Sarah earned her Advanced E.T License and continued to grow as a competitive driver.

By 2015, she was chosen by Al Hanna, the owner of Hanna Motorsports’ Queen of Diamonds racecar, to be its new “Queen” (driver). At age 24, Sarah became the driver of the very car she first saw when she was 12 years old at the race track!

In recent years, Sarah has won approximately 90% of her 300 mile per hour match races, set multiple track records, and earned a spot on Drag Illustrated’s 2016 Famous 30 Under 30 List.
