Tickets Available For Acts 4 Ministry Fundraiser on May 15

Tickets are available for Acts 4 Ministry’s annual “Inspiration: Inspiring acts of love” fundraiser cocktail reception. The event will be held Wednesday, May 15, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theater in Waterbury featuring the acclaimed classic folk, rock, and pop duo, The Kennedys, who tour across the United States and the United Kingdom.

Acts 4 Ministry Executive Director Sarah Elizabeth Carabetta explained, “This fundraising reception for our non-denominational non-profit is an annual celebration of the many ways our organization impacts positive changes in the greater Waterbury community. We support the daily needs of families and individuals who are in dire financial distress because they have lost virtually everything they possess to a fire, flood, or other devastating life events.”

The husband and wife duo of Maura and Pete Kennedy have enjoyed a career that spans more than 20 years. The New York City-based guitarists and vocalists have traversed a broad musical landscape, surveying power pop, acoustic songwriting, organic rock rooted in their early days in Austin, Texas. Early in their career, they joined the Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra for a few years before setting out on their own.

The duo’s musical influences are rooted in Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, The Byrds, and The Beatles, and to date, the married couple has released numerous CDs including their latest, “safe until tomorrow’ which was released in May of 2018.

At the start of their career, the duo’s Byrds-inspired jangle drew the attention of McGuinn, Steve Earle, and most notably Nanci Griffith. They co-produced Nanci’ Griffith’s latest CD, and tour extensively across the U.S. and the British Isles with the Texas songstress. Alan Harrison of Made in Newcastle said, "The Kennedys offer a nice line of country-folk with a quaintly English edge to it and songs like ‘When I go’ and ‘The Midnight Ghost’, won them plenty of new fans, as was witnessed by the long queue buying up their CD’s at the intermission."

“Acts 4 Ministry is a collaborative group of a volunteer board of directors, staff members and dozens of volunteers who desire to share God’s love by meeting the comforting physical needs of others. We achieve this goal daily,” explained Carabetta, “on many levels by collecting and distributing, free-of-charge to recipients, clothing, and housewares with an accommodating furniture program through volunteerism. Each year we distribute clothing to nearly 4,000 people, and over 1,000 pieces of furniture and housewares to people of varying income levels throughout the Greater Waterbury area.”
