Southbury Student Creates Safe Exchange Zone at Police Station

Southbury now has a Safe Exchange Zone at the parking lot of the Southbury Police Station, thanks to Grace Steenburgh, Girl Scout Ambassador of Troop 64325.

My name is Grace Steenburgh, Girl Scout Ambassador of Troop 64325, and I'm a senior at Pomperaug High School. For my Girl Scout Gold Award, I have installed a sign in the Southbury Police Station parking lot to create a "Safe Exchange Zone" in our community. What this enables is a well-known area under complete video surveillance for those active in things like an online purchase, through Facebook tag sale, Craigslist, etc. for example, or a safe area for child custody issues. Hopefully, this provides a safer system for our town when using the internet for sales while bettering their education about the dangers surrounding certain exchanges and what we can do to prevent that danger. Also, the hope of implementing a better feeling of safety within children when being transferred between divorced parents.
