Southbury First Selectman Orders Removal of Basketball Hoops, Tennis Nets Due to Lack of Social Distancing

The Pomperaug District Department of Health has seen a significant increase in cases over the last week. At this time, 30 cases have occurred in the Pomperaug Health District. There has been 1 death.

Due to the lack of social distancing in Southbury Parks, the basketball hoops and tennis nets will be removed per order of the First Selectman.

The Health District’s Public Health Nurse has been following up on each positive case. Cases that occur in assisted living facilities or nursing homes will be investigated by CT Department of Public Health (DPH) epidemiologists and officials from the Facility Licensing and Inspection Section (FLIS). Part of the follow up involves review of infection control practices at the facility.

To date, the Pomperaug Health District has distributed 7500 items of personal protective equipment (PPE) to local long-term care and emergency medical partners as part of its weekly PPE distribution plan.

Please continue to stay home except for work and essentials, like food. Practice excellent hand hygiene and disinfect high-touch surfaces frequently, including in your car. For more information on COVID-19 visit www.pddh.org.
