Creativity Connects Southbury: Meet Leslie Kane, Director at the Audubon Center Bent of the River

Creativity Connects Southbury

What fuels a vibrant, connected, and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Southbury?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Southbury.

Creativity connects us.

Meet Leslie Kane, Director at the Audubon Center Bent of the River in Southbury.

What do you love about your community?

Southbury is filled with so much open space and there are so many great nonprofits that offer any community services to those in need - it makes it a perfect place to live or visit. The community is small enough to get to know so many of your neighbors. In addition, there are many great local shopping options and proximity to main roads. It is a perfect mix.

Tell us about an organization in your town that makes you feel good

Audubon! We work to protect nature for the benefit of birds, other wildlife, and people—through education, science, stewardship, and advocacy. Your support makes this critical work possible!

Bent of the River in Southbury has 700 acres to explore that includes the Pomperaug River, forests and fields with 15 miles of trails. The Audubon sanctuary is specially managed for birds and is so peaceful and beautiful in every season. Southbury is a beautiful town with lots of protected open space, and the Bent of the River is a special jewel in the community.

Where do you go for inspiration and creativity?

I go to the Bent of the River river trail. Walking this trail along the flowing Pomperaug River is the most inspirational walk for me. The sound of the river and the birds flitting around the banks is my inspiration.
