Southbury Celebration Committee is looking for local area musical talent

Southbury Celebration Committee is looking for local area musical talent including students and adults to volunteer to perform at this year's Southbury Celebration event on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at beautiful Lake Stibbs at the Southbury Training School on Route 172 in Southbury.

The 23rd Annual Southbury Celebration featuring food, music, community fellowship and fireworks is co-sponsored by the Town of Southbury and the Southbury Training School. The rain date is Sunday, October 3rd.

The Southbury Celebration Committee invites artists of all ages to perform music with intergenerational appeal and to focus mostly on very recognizable cover songs. Music of all genres are welcomed, (ie: Pop; Folk; Rock; Jazz; Standards; Broadway; etc). Performers may use live accompaniment or karaoke tracks. Due to stage capacity, musicians are encouraged to limit their group size to between 1 and 5 performers.

The Committee will review all submissions and choose the performers that best fit the spirit of the event taking into consideration entertainment factor and available space on the program. They will be allocated 5 to 20 minutes to perform. The deadline for submission is Sunday, August 29, 2021. Early submissions are greatly appreciated. Please upload submission videos and tapes to: https://southbury-ct.org/sbycelebration-music.

The 2021 event field is being re-configured to permit more social distancing on the field. In addition, food vendor locations and their customer lines are being structured to permit greater social distancing. People have the option to watch the fireworks from their car on the Great Lawn or can bring their own lawn chairs and blankets for view from the Lake Stibbs event field.

People are encouraged to attend early to hear the music, visit with friends, enjoy the food selections/food trucks, or enjoy their own picnic dinner and ultimately watch a spectacular firework show.

A PowerStation DJ will start the music at 4:30 pm followed by talented local musicians. New this year will be a magician for kids of all ages. Music and entertainment will continue up until the National Anthem performance at around 7:45 pm immediately before the fireworks.

The Food Court currently has 10 food vendors including 7 commercial food trucks plus numerous community groups with a large variety of options providing: BBQ and southern cuisine, fried rice, dumplings and Asian style grinders, hot lobster rolls, scallop rolls, fish & chips, fried shrimp and New England clam chowder; empanadas, beef chili, corn, chicken tenders, fried dough, curly fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers baked goods, cannoli, snacks, candy, donuts, 40 varieties of packaged ice cream, soda, water, coffee and beverages.
