Connecticut State Trooper Died in Line of Duty After Cruiser Swept Away in Woodbury Flood

Connecticut State Police held a solemn news conference this afternoon to announce that one of their troopers, a senior Seargent, who was pulled from floodwaters in Woodbury has died.

According to the State Police, the Seargent was working a midnight shift in the horrific weather. At approximately 3:30 am Troop L received an emergency call from Seargent that he was in distress and his vehicle was in swift water. All assets were sent to his aid including dive teams, helicopters. Daybreak came and his vehicle was located submerged in the river. The search team did not locate the Seargent in the vehicle. About an hour later, the Seargent was found him a later and was transported by lifestar helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was presumed dead en route.

His name has not been released pending notification of the family.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Connecticut State Police, and Sergent's loved ones. This is a terrible tragedy.
