Current Exhibit in the Gloria Cachion Gallery

Acrylic and Oil Paintings by Sal Barracca
February 2 through February 27 during open hours

A selection of Sal Barracca's acrylic and oil paintings will be on display in the Gloria Cachion Art Gallery in the Southbury Public Library from February 2, 2019 - February 27, 2019.  Sal Barracca studied painting and illustration at Norwich Free Academy in Connecticut and The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.  He went on to work as a commercial illustrator and teacher.  He later became an Art Director, working for Avon Books, Ladies' Home Journal, and Bantam Books.  After years of working with illustrators from an Art Director's perspective, he decided to become an illustrator's agent.  He enjoyed developing new talent and working with the artists to create illustrations for the publishing and advertising industries.

Along with his wife Debra, a graphic designer, they created, wrote, designed, and art directed a series of children's books called, "The Adventures of Taxi Dog," published by Dial Books in 1990.  The series has won numerous awards, was featured on TV programs, including PBS' "Reading Rainbow" and "Storytime," and is currently being produced for TV.

As a fine arts painter, Mr. Barracca has had solo shows at The Lenox Gallery of Fine Art in Massachusetts, Gunn Memorial Library & Museum in Washington, CT and Winvian Resort in Morris, CT.  Connecticut group shows include 550 Gallery in Bethlehem, Washington Art Association, Kent Art Association, Artisans Harbor in Old Saybrook, Fine Line Art Gallery in Woodbury, and Watertown Art League, where he recently won the Founder's Award for Best Oil Painting in Show.  Mr. Barracca currently shows his work at the PS Gallery in Litchfield.  He works in acrylics and/or oils on various surfaces.  His approach to his art is to push color and to create a sense of scene.  Mr. Barracca also works in abstracts and enjoys the freedom of experimenting with color and different media to create various moods and effects.

"I want the viewer to really connect with the painting on some level to the point that they cannot stop thinking about it."
