Dedication of the Pollinator Garden in Southbury on Tuesday, June 18

Dedication of the Pollinator Garden

The Southbury Garden Club invites interested area residents to attend the dedication of the club’s new Pollinator Garden in Settlers Park on Tuesday, June 18th at 1:30 p.m.

Garden Club President Elizabeth Berlenbach will discuss the importance of providing habitat for all our pollinators, including: bees; butterflies; hummingbirds, bats and other creatures who perform the vital roll of pollinating our foods.

In recognition of National Pollinator Week, June 17-23, First Selectman Jeffrey Manville will dedicate this new environmental space in Southbury.

Free milkweed seeds will be distributed as long as supplies last. Milkweed is the only plant where monarch butterflies will lay their eggs. Once found in every hedgerow, milkweed plants have been badly reduced by land development and the use of pesticides. These colorful harbingers of summer need our help to survive and flourish.
