Michaels Jewelers Welcomes New Owners, Nine Store Remain Open

Michaels Jewelers in Connecticut has been purchased by 7C Diamonds, Inc. of Springfield, Mass. W. Mark Michaels, CEO of the fifth-generation family-owned Michaels Jewelers announced, “Our family-owned business is proud to announce we have reached a purchase agreement with our close family friend and highly-revered jewelry retail specialist Camile Hannoush, president of 7C Diamonds, Inc. based in Springfield, Mass.”

With ten retail stores statewide, Michaels Jewelers, based in Waterbury, is one of Connecticut’s leading retailers of diamonds and fine jewelry. The business was founded in 1885 by Abraham L. Michaels and has been managed most recently by fourth and fifth-generation family members.

“As I approach my impending retirement,” continued W. Mark Michaels, “we have chosen to sell our enterprise to another jewelry entrepreneur who will assure the continuation of our family’s legacy past our current fifth generation.”

DeAnna Syner, director of marketing for 7C Diamonds, Inc. stated, “Michaels Jewelers is a very secure, well-known and highly-valued brand. When Mark Michaels began making plans for his retirement, he spoke with 7C Diamonds, Inc. about his strong desire to carry the company’s legacy on for another four to five generations. Our team is highly honored to keep moving the Michaels brand forward to keep the well-established legacy prominently viable across Connecticut.

“Our 7C Diamonds, Inc. management team will very much welcome fourth-generation family member Mark Michaels as a revered supportive consultant as well as fifth-generation Michaels family member Lindsay Michaels-Gorski as a marketing strategies consultant and continue to be the ‘voice of the brand’.”

Michaels Jewelers stores are currently located in Danbury, Orange, Avon, Torrington, Bristol, and in well-known malls that include Westfarms, Manchester’s Buckland Hills, Westfield Trumbull, Westfield Meriden and Waterbury’s Brass Mill Center. “Nine of these stores,” assured Syner, “will remain open with their management and employee teams in place. We will repurpose and relocate the Torrington store inventory and staff to a yet-to-be-determined new store location, and on Friday, August 16, that store, at 80 Main Street, will begin to host a closing sale.”

Syner emphasized, “What is most important is that the well-established, highly-regarded values of the Michaels Jewelers brand will confidently continue.”

Michaels Jewelers reigns as the first jeweler in Connecticut to earn the titles of Certified Gemologist and Appraiser. It also possesses one of the largest group of jewelry and gems appraisal departments in their retail stores statewide and is one of the few AGS Accredited Gem Laboratories in Connecticut. The AGS offers the highest standards in the gem industry and Michaels Jewelers, one of the longest-standing members of the AGS, has been an active, leading and highly-awarded Society member since 1958.
