Southbury Parks and Recreation 2020 Summer Camp

The Southbury Parks and Recreation Department has announced that it will be offering summer camp in 2020. Weekly sessions will commence on June 29 and will run until August 7.

Program registration is scheduled to begin Friday, May 29 for residents of the Region 15 school district.

"Summer camps are extremely important to working families. We believe that our offerings will provide an opportunity to both campers and parents to continue to flourish. Families can be confident knowing that their children are being well cared for," said Michael Ganem, Southbury Parks and Recreation Director.

Parks and Recreation Summer Camp will be available for campers entering grades 1 to 8. The program runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. OR Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Campers can only be registered for morning or afternoon sessions - per guidelines, campers cannot attend both sessions. Campers are able to register for multiple weeks.

Camp will be held at the Parks and Recreation facility at 561 Main Street South with daily activities scheduled at the adjacent Pomperaug Elementary School.

Recreation Supervisor, Dan Liddi stated, "Although summer camp will look different this year, we are dedicated to making it as fun and safe as possible while abiding by guidelines set by health and government officials."

"In order to provide the safest care possible, the department has invested in personal protective equipment, hand sanitizer, thermometers and more", Michael Ganem said. The Parks and Recreation Department, along with Southbury Emergency Operations Center, has developed comprehensive safety protocols and modifications in conjunction with the Office of Early Childhood, the Pomperaug Health District and Region 15 to ensure the summer camp program is as safe as possible. Some of those changes include:

  • Limiting group sizes to 10 campers
  • Limiting the total number of campers
  • Limiting hours to allow for cleaning and sanitizing
  • Staffing to enhance safety measures and supervision
  • Requiring PPE for all staff members
  • Handling drop-off and pick-up outside the building
  • Requiring temperature checks for both campers and staff prior to being allowed into the building

Registration will be available online at southbury.recdesk.com starting at 12:01am on Friday, May 29.

In person and over the phone registration will be available starting Monday, June 1.

To register in person, you can drop off the completed camp registration form with the check (payable to Southbury Parks and Recreation), using P&R drop box, which is located to the right of entrance to Parks and Recreation building.
