Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing) Comes to Flanders!

Forest Bathing, aka nature therapy, leaves space for individual interpretation and creativity. The practice is restorative and supports the health and healing of both individuals and the natural environment. Empirically demonstrated health benefits can include reduced blood pressure, reduced cortisol levels, boosted immune function, mood improvement, and increased focus/cognition. The experience is designed to address the stresses of our modern digitized society as we seek reconnection to our origin in the natural environment.

A complimentary virtual introduction to the concept of Forest Bathing is offered on February 27 at 7 PM. Attendees will learn why nature’s calm energy is so good for us. Then come experience forest bathing with a slow and somatic walk in the natural environment of Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust on Sunday, March 19 and on Sunday, April 30.

Certified Nature and Forest Therapy guide, Maura Smotrich will offer you a series of invitations that will open your gateway to sensory awareness, practicing mindful movement, nature observation and end with tea outside. Both sessions will meet at 10 AM at the Van Vleck Sanctuary Studio parking area. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Please bring a light mat or towel, and optionally: a journal, water, bug spray, sunscreen, clothing layers. Interested parties can register for the virtual introduction and/or the walks online on the Flanders website, flandersnaturecenter.org, or by calling the office at 203-263-3711, ext. 12.
