Laurel House in Stamford honors President of Silver Hill Hospital Dr. Sigurd Ackerman

Laurel House will be hosting its annual Champions for Recovery Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Stamford Yacht Club.  It will be a memorable evening to support Laurel House’s work in providing critical programs and services to those living with mental illness and to their families. 

Sigurd H. Ackerman, M.D., President and Medical Director of Silver Hill Hospital is Laurel House’s 2016 Champion for Recovery.  Dr. Ackerman is being recognized for his work in the field of psychiatric research and treatment.  During his 13 years of leadership at Silver Hill Hospital, Dr. Ackerman has been instrumental in the development of new programs for the treatment of psychotic, mood, eating and substance use disorders.

Laurel House will also be recognizing five Town Champions for their work, advocacy and outreach, making their towns better places in which to live and work.  The 2016 Town Champions are: Judy Bentley, New Canaan; Ross Burkhardt, Stamford/Westport; William W. Galvin III, Greenwich; David Levinson, Ph.D., Norwalk/Stamford; Susan Marks, Darien.

Laurel House is grateful to its event honorees for helping give visibility to the need for increased access to mental health services.  In Fairfield County alone, nearly 57,000 adults and children are living with a mental health disorder but many of those are not receiving treatment.
