State Funding for Westhill High School, Norwalk High School, and Future Stamford Schools

Words cannot fully capture the excitement and pride that I experienced while standing next to my colleagues on Wednesday as we announced that the recently passed state budget increases the state reimbursement for the Westhill High School project from 20% to 80%. That means the City of Stamford will receive $206.4 million in state funding for the Westhill project alone.

Not only that, but the state budget also increased the state school construction grant formula to 60% for future projects for the next 25 years.

This would not have been possible without the leadership of Senator Pat Billie Miller, who brought this funding across the finish line, and the rest of the Stamford delegation, as well as Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) and Senate President Pro Tempore Martin Looney (D-New Haven) who worked to ensure this was included in the budget legislation.  

I also want to thank Dr. Lucero and her team for their partnership and advocacy throughout this process and their work each day to make Stamford public schools the best they can be for our students.

This increase in school construction funding will impact Stamford students, teachers, and staff for years to come and provide a modern and healthy learning environment that students deserve.
