Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
Four questions with Allison Tables, co-founder of EFfective Educational and Therapeutic Services.
Why did you start your business?
We started our business because it became clear that there was a need to combine academic intervention/executive functioning training with therapeutic support for children, adolescents, and young adults. As a therapist, I saw many clients with not only mental health challenges but also academic struggles.
When treating a child/adolescent whose life is primarily at school, it seemed silly not to have an academic picture when providing therapy. Therefore, Sue Chandler (former Special Education Assistant Director for Stamford Public Schools and veteran special education teacher) and I (a 15-year school counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor) partnered to create Effective Educational and Therapeutic Services.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Individual therapy paired with executive functioning support!
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
We plan to continue to provide services for our clients and expand our business to best support the needs of our clients.
Allison would like to nominate Suzanne's gym - the U to be featured next!
