“Women and Other Animals” and “Peeling the Onion” Exhibits

Come to an opening reception for two art exhibits: CAFC member artist Nancy Moore’s exhibit “Women and Other Animals” features her colorful and fanciful works in the library's gallery and “Peeling the Onion” is a special collaboration between painter Colleen Hains, photographer Heidi Mangels, and poet Jane Wenk, all from Norwalk. Both exhibitions run through April 29th.

Reggie Harris and Greg Greenway share a compelling story and deeply personal musical performance about racial injustice in America faced down with creative resistance, friendship, music, and joy. This musical experience has been described as “a profoundly moving evening of deep sharing… riveting, poignant, joyful… with exquisite timing, careful phrasing, and the stellar musicianship and storytelling.” Proceeds benefit Becoming Anti-Racist (BAR), a program of the local Council of Churches. Brought to you by the Working for Racial Justice Pathway.

Tom will share his extensive knowledge of textile and fiber art. For 30+years, browngrotta arts has been promoting contemporary art textiles and fiber sculpture through exhibitions, lectures, and publications--representing the work of more than 90 artists from North and South America, Europe, Asia, Israel, Australia, and the UK. Tom, co-curator and fine art photographer, has worked on numerous catalogs, which feature his photography along with co-curator and editor Rhonda Brown.

They’re back! Come and enjoy a program that will honor one of the wind quintet’s favorite music arrangers, Wilford (“Bill”) Holcomb (1924-2010). Join in the fun of listening to and naming the tunes from Singin’ in the Rain, Wizard of Oz, Porgy and Bess, and Fiddler on the Roof. The members of Madera Winds include: Kerry Walker (Flute); Ralph Kirmser (Oboe); Janet Atherton (Clarinet); Rosemary Dellinger (Bassoon); and Marjorie Seymour Callaghan (Horn).

Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour, Celebrating 65 Years

As one of the world’s longest running and most iconic events, the Festival celebrates its anniversary with a once-in-a-lifetime ensemble. Featuring Grammy Award winning vocalist Kurt Elling, alongside new vocal sensation and Monterey Jazz Festival break-out star, Veronica Swift, and critically acclaimed rising star saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, this band will be directed by pianist (and CT-native) Christian Sands and anchored by his longtime rhythm section, bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Clarence Penn.
