Chelsea Piers Connecticut will host a youth health panel to address the mental and physical wellness of young athletes. Open to athletes and their families, the event aims to provide valuable insights into maintaining overall health, both on and off the field. This panel is part of an ongoing series organized by Chelsea Piers for its competitive athletes.
The panel, moderated by Kevin Burton, Athletic Director at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, will feature experts discussing critical health issues. Rob Thorsen, founder and co-CEO of Darien-based nonprofit Shoulder Check, will focus on mental health and the importance of fostering social connections among peers. Amanda Russell, a former elite Canadian runner, will address Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome (RED-S), a condition caused by insufficient energy intake to meet exercise demands, which can lead to long-term health impacts. Dr. Karen Sutton, a sports medicine specialist from the Hospital for Special Surgery, will provide insights on Rhabdomyolysis, a condition where damaged muscles release harmful substances into the bloodstream.
Participants include Rob Thorsen, Amanda Russell, Dr. Karen Sutton, and Kevin Burton, along with more than 200 competitive athletes from Chelsea Piers. This initiative underscores Chelsea Piers’ commitment to supporting the well-being of its athletes, offering them the tools and knowledge to excel both in sports and in life.
