The Bridgeport Public Library is delighted to host Professor Julia Kushigian PhD, author of "The Resilient Apocalypse" for a discussion on the end of the world as visualized in Hispanic art and literature. When you hear the word Apocalypse, what comes to mind? Is it zombies, plagues, disease, political and social chaos, monsters, trauma, societies collapsing, the End of the world, or climate change? Could this be happening now? Why does it happen at all? What can we do about it? Throughout history, people have faced apocalyptic moments striking across geographic, gender, social, racial and ethnic boundaries. In this talk, we will explore how an illustration from medieval Spain, a Cuban slave novel and a Latino hip-hop artist battle the end and create promising new beginnings.
