Mayor Simmon's Stamford Update: Shake Shake Opens, Fireworks, State of City

 MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Shake Shack Grand Opening: Recently, I was grateful to celebrate the grand opening of Shake Shack with the Stamford Chamber of Commerce! We are glad they chose our City as the place for their newest and fourth location in Fairfield County at 64 High Ridge Road.
  • State Funding for Government Center Upgrades: The City of Stamford has received $3 million in state bonding to make infrastructure improvements outside the Stamford Government Center. This project includes sidewalk enhancements to make the area ADA compliant, integrate green infrastructure and create space to support local food truck parking.
  • 2024 State of the City: On Monday, July 8th at 8:00PM, I will be giving the City of Stamford’s 2024 State of the City address. Please join us at Government Center or watch the live stream available at http://www.boardofreps.org/.
  • CITY NEWS
  • Parking Garage Demolition: The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has initiated the demolition of the Stamford Transportation Center's 1985 Parking Garage and Pedestrian Bridge. For further details, click here.
  • Paving Update: Click here for the priority list for paving operations established in response to a city-wide road assessment in 2022.
  • Beach Passes Available for Purchase: Beach passes are now available for purchase online or in person. Parking permits are required at Cove Island, Cummings, West Beach, John J. Boccuzzi, Dorothy Heroy & Newman Mills Riverbank Walk Parks from May 1st through September 30th. Click here for more information and to purchase your pass.

 

  • Stamford Transportation Center Master Plan: Our administration has been meeting with the Connecticut Department of Transportation and city transportation officials to continue to make progress on the Stamford Train Station Master Plan. CITY EVENTS

  • Independence Day Fireworks: The City of Stamford will hold the July 4th of celebration fireworks at Cummings Beach on Saturday, July 6th. The rain date will be Sunday, July 7th. Entertainment will begin at 6:00 pm, and residents will be able to bring chairs and blankets. Food trucks will be onsite, and the fireworks will begin shortly after 9:00 pm.  Traffic 

  • Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is closed to traffic due to its condition. Detour signs have been placed by the Traffic Department to guide traffic around the closure. Residents can click here for updates.
  • Lakeside Drive Bridge Replacement: As of April 1st, the Lakeside Drive Bridge is closed to all traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians. The traffic light at the intersection of High Ridge Road and Interlaken Road has been revised with the timing of the green light to avoid the back up of cars traveling both southbound and northbound. Please stay away from the construction site for your own safety. There is only access to the Aquarion Water treatment plant provided pass Quarry Road. For detour plans and more information click here.
  • Cedar Heights Bridge Replacement: The Cedar Heights Bridge is currently closed and is scheduled to reopen to vehicular traffic on November 2nd.
  • West Glen Drive Bridge: West Glen Bridge is currently closed for replacement, and the anticipated completion date is 12/1/2024
  • Connecticut Department of Transportation Stamford Station Construction: Construction continues at the Stamford Train Station, so please make sure to plan ahead. Passengers can find the updated train schedule here.
