As Stamford’s nonprofit emergency service provider for the past 25 years, and a provider of contracted paramedic response to the town of Darien, Stamford EMS will participate in Fairfield County’s Giving Day on March 1st for the very first time.
Hosted by Fairfield County's Community Foundation, with lead sponsor Bank of America, Giving Day inspires and empowers our region to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofit organizations in just 24 hours through online donations. This collective impact takes place on March 1, 2018.
The decision to participate in Fairfield County’s Giving Day was driven by the high cost of life-saving equipment. Stamford EMS is seeking to raise $1,000 towards the price of a Lucas Chest Compression System, which costs $12,000.
“With a Lucas device, patients in cardiac arrest will receive automated chest compressions,” said Patricia Squires, Chief and CEO of Stamford EMS. “Effective chest compressions deliver vital oxygen to the brain and can improve the likelihood of return of spontaneous circulation. It’s a life-saving piece of equipment that allows us to provide the best care possible, but it’s expensive.”
Since 1992 Stamford EMS has delivered top quality medical services and responded to an estimated 300,000 emergency calls. The organization is among only 1% of EMS systems in the country granted CAAS accreditation, which means that Stamford EMS has met the “gold standard” determined by the ambulance industry. Stamford EMS is the only EMS organization in Connecticut to have met these standards.
