SilverSource receives $10,000 grant from First County Bank Foundation

SilverSource, the nonprofit agency providing services and resources for older adults in the Stamford area, has received a $10,000 grant from First County Bank Foundation. The funding will support the organization’s popular Ride to Wellness program that provides free transportation to and from medical appointments for older Stamford residents. Each year, the Ride to Wellness program provides nearly 3,000 cost-free, door-to-door rides to seniors.

“The mission of the Ride to Wellness program is to help older adults keep up with medical care to maintain health, participate in well visits and follow-up care, and make sure they can manage chronic conditions,” said SilverSource CEO Kathleen Bordelon. “We are truly grateful to First County Bank Foundation as a sustaining sponsor of this program. This type of support benefits thousands of Stamford seniors, by removing the cost of transportation as a barrier to healthcare.”

The Ride to Wellness program currently has two vehicles in operation including a wheelchair-accessible van. Drivers take people to all types of medical appointments including physicals, dental visits, physical therapy, cardiology follow-up visits, vision care, cancer treatment and dialysis. The service is available to any senior citizen in Stamford.

“SilverSource provides important services for older residents in our community, and its Ride to Wellness program improves their quality of life by ensuring they can get to their doctor’s appointments,” said Robert J. Granata, First County Bank Chairman & CEO and President of First County Bank Foundation. “We are proud to support such a worthy local organization and to support a program that provides such a vital service to Stamford seniors.”

The Ride to Wellness program was established in 2008 with funding from First County Bank Foundation. It began with a single-vehicle providing transportation two days a week and has expanded to two vehicles now running five days a week. The service is safe, reliable and cost-free. Drivers provide attentive, personalized care transporting one client at a time. Wheelchair passengers need to be accompanied by an aide or family member. Rides are available by appointment for non-emergency medical services.
