Domestic Violence Crisis Center awarded $35,000 in grants from UWWC

DVCC Awarded $35,00 in Grants from United Way of Western Connecticut

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) is pleased to announce it has been awarded $35,000 in grants from the United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC).  The first award, for $20,000 through UWWC’s COVID Resiliency Fund, will help support a collaborative initiative between DVCC’s Youth & Family Counseling, and our Housing & Financial Advocacy programs. The second, for $15,000, was awarded through UWWC’s Financial Stability Program, and will help fund DVCC’s Housing & Financial Advocacy program.

“We are grateful to the United Way of Western Connecticut for its continued, generous support. This funding will play a vital role in DVCC’s ability to serve domestic violence victims and their families in our community,” said Suzanne Adam, Executive Director of DVCC.

Both of these grant awards will help domestic violence victims recover from financial abuse. Financial abuse occurs in 99% of domestic violence cases. A lack of affordable housing, ruined credit scores, lack of job skills needed to obtain a sustainable living wage, are among the issues that DVCC helps clients address with its Housing & Financial Advocacy Program.

United Way of Western Connecticut improves the lives of hard-working, struggling households by mobilizing the resources of local communities to create lasting change. United Way helps residents across Northern Fairfield County, Southern Litchfield County and the City of Stamford by focusing on the vital building blocks for a good life: education, financial stability and health. It is particularly focused on a population identified as ALICE®(Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). By leveraging the collective power of the community, we are focused on creating an environment where individuals and families are self-sufficient and can achieve financial independence.
