Domestic Violence Crisis Center awarded $35,000 in grants from UWWC

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) is pleased to announce it has been awarded $35,000 in grants from the United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC).  The first award, for $20,000 through UWWC’s COVID Resiliency Fund, will help support a collaborative initiative between DVCC’s Youth & Family Counseling, and our Housing & Financial Advocacy programs. The second, for $15,000, was awarded through UWWC’s Financial Stability Program, and will help fund DVCC’s Housing & Financial Advocacy program.  

“We are grateful to the United Way of Western Connecticut for its continued, generous support. This funding will play a vital role in DVCC’s ability to serve domestic violence victims and their families in our community,” said Suzanne Adam, Executive Director of DVCC. 

Both of these grant awards will help domestic violence victims recover from financial abuse. Financial abuse occurs in 99% of domestic violence cases. A lack of affordable housing, ruined credit scores, lack of job skills needed to obtain a sustainable living wage, are among the issues that DVCC helps clients address with its Housing & Financial Advocacy Program.

DVCC is here to support individuals on their journey to safety.  DVCC advocates for individuals who are experiencing abuse in personal relationships.  Our multiple services and professional staff help those experiencing any level of domestic violence and assist them in building a safer environment for the well-being of themselves and their families.  All victim services are free and confidential, and all services offered are multicultural/multilingual.

DVCC’s mission is to provide effective services, support and education for the prevention and elimination of domestic violence across the Connecticut communities of Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Weston, Westport, Wilton and beyond.
