SilverSource receives $5,000 grant from United Way of Western Connecticut

SilverSource, the nonprofit agency providing services and resources for older adults in the Stamford area, received a $5,000 COVID-19 Resiliency Grant from United Way of Western Connecticut. The funding helped support the organization’s food and nutrition program, which during the height of the pandemic provided weekly grocery deliveries to more than 330 older residents. The funding covers services through June 30, 2022.

According to SilverSource CEO Kathleen Bordelon food insecurity is a serious issue faced by many Stamford seniors with extremely limited income. Studies show that older adults who receive delivered meals experience significant improvements in health and well-being, reduced feelings of isolation and less anxiety about being able to remain in their homes.

“We continue to deliver groceries to seniors in need, as so many of our clients are homebound, at risk, and in need of food and nutrition support,” said Bordelon. “With so many residents requiring restricted diets due to chronic health conditions, we work to ensure they receive specialized grocery items to meet their health needs, prevent hunger and provide nutritious food to keep them healthy.”

The COVID-19 Resiliency Grants are just one part of a coordinated, region-wide effort by United Way of Western Connecticut to alleviate the economic hardships experienced by our area’s residents as a result of the pandemic.
