Stamford Senior Center Fundraiser a Rousing Success

With more than 170 guests in attendance, the Stamford Senior Center hosted its largest fundraiser of the year on May 5 at The Village in Stamford. The sold-out event, named Lives Blossom, raised funds to support the essential services and wide array of programming the nonprofit organization provides for seniors in the greater Stamford region.

“The Stamford Senior Center performs a very important role in Stamford. We are an independent organization, not part of the city, so we have to have events like this to raise funds to support our budget,” said former Stamford Senior Center Board Chair Clare Kretzman. “This event has just grown and grown, and I feel like the word is getting out and that we are drawing many more people to our events.”

The Stamford Senior Center offers affordable, life-enhancing opportunities and essential support for its nearly 900 members. Through a wide array of active and engaging programing, older adults in the greater Stamford area can be active and healthy in mind and body, while remaining connected to their community in a welcoming, safe and diverse environment.

The pandemic put a damper on the organization’s fundraising efforts, and after a two-year hiatus, the evening raised $45,000. The lively event celebrated the resiliency of the senior community and honored two dynamic women for their efforts to serve seniors in our community.

Donna Spellman, Executive Director of River House Adult Day Center, was honored for her work leading River House, an adult day care and healthcare facility in Greenwich, CT that has served the Greenwich and Stamford community for the past seven years.

Stamford Senior Center Board Member Roberta Eichler was also honored for her efforts as a community leader and lifelong volunteer. Among her many accomplishments, Eichler served as the longtime executive director of the Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County.

“We are delighted to honor these amazing women and to highlight their efforts to help seniors thrive in our area,” said Christina Crain, Executive Director of the Stamford Senior Center. “It’s wonderful to see a full room of people celebrating the Stamford Senior Center and we’re grateful to our generous sponsors for helping to make the evening possible.”

In addition to cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a Cinco De Mayo-themed dinner, guests enjoyed bidding for exciting auction items and networking.

Stamford Senior Center is grateful to its generous sponsors, including Platinum Sponsor: Sovereign Financial Froup, Gold Sponsor: First County Bank, Bolduc Law, Pitney Bowes and The Waterstone on Highridge, Silver Sponsors: AJM Realty, Osborn Homecare, Totilo & Company, Robert & Clare A. Kretzman, Elaine & Bill Malgieri and PepsiCo. as well as exclusive media sponsor, Stamford Magazine/Moffly Media.
