Susan Ronald, Author of Condé Nast: A Man and His Empire, Speaks at Ferguson Library on Sept. 16

The Ferguson Library will host author Susan Ronald on Monday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Ronald will speak about her biography Conde Nast: A Man and His Empire, the first biography in over 30 years of Condé Nast, the pioneering publisher of Vogue and Vanity Fair and main rival to media magnate William Randolph Hearst. Refreshments will be served, and a book sale and signing will follow the talk.

Condé Nast’s life and career were as high profile and glamorous as his magazines. Moving to New York in the early twentieth century with just the shirt on his back, he soon became the highest paid executive in the United States, acquiring Vogue in 1909 and Vanity Fair in 1913. With his editors, he built the first-ever international magazine empire, introducing European modern art, style, and fashion to an American audience.

Born and raised in the United States, Susan Ronald is a British-American biographer and historian of eight books, including A Dangerous Woman, Hitler’s Art Thief, and Heretic Queen. She lives in rural England with her writer husband.

The event will be held at the Harry Bennett Branch, located at 115 Vine Road in Stamford, Conn. For more information, phone (203) 351-8292.
