An Evening with Author Christina Weyl at Bruce Museum in Greenwich

The Greenwich Arts Council and Bruce Museum are pleased to announce the second in a series of engaging educational programs, An Evening with Author and Scholar Christina Weyl

The evening’s program will start at the Greenwich Arts Council with cocktails and an opportunity to view the exhibition WOMEN OF ATELIER 17 in the Bendheim Gallery from 5:00 - 6:00 pm on February 25, 2020.  The reception will be followed by Weyl’s talk at the Bruce Museum at 6:30 - 8:00 pm.  Anitra Brooks, a docent at the Greenwich Arts Council, will be facilitating the talk, as well as moderating a question and answer session.

Atelier 17 operated as an uncommonly egalitarian laboratory for revolutionizing print technique, style, and scale. It facilitated women artists’ engagement with modernist styles, providing a forum for extraordinary achievements that shaped postwar sculpture, fiber art, neo-Dadaism, and the Pattern and Decoration movement.

Weyl’s new book, “The Women of Atelier 17: Modernist Printmaking in Midcentury New York,” follows eight women, who worked at the avant-garde printmaking workshop between 1940 and 1955. This program will give attendees unprecedented access to the creative process behind the works of Atelier 17.

Tickets are $25 for Arts Council and Bruce Museum members, $35 for non-members. To make a reservation, visit brucemuseum.org. For more information or for assistance making a reservation, contact Corinne Flax at 203-413-6742 or cflax@brucemuseum.org.
