Chelsea Piers Fitness has launched a free outdoor fitness series for the communities surrounding their three Chelsea Piers Fitness club locations. Their Downtown Brooklyn, Chelsea and Stamford, Connecticut clubs have each connected with local parks and entities for their expert instructors to bring complementary, equipment-free fitness classes out to their communities.
“The past year really highlighted a few things. First, there is a huge interest and need for fitness for both mental and physical health. Second, many people use group fitness as a social and support network. The third thing that we saw nationwide was the importance of communities supporting one another,” commented Keeth Smart, Regional General Manager, Chelsea Piers Fitness. “Based on these observations we opted to look forward and plan a comprehensive free outdoor fitness series to help support our communities and their desire for movement, community engagement and safe socializing.”
Chelsea Piers has partnered with Hudson River Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, Athleta, Mill River Park, and Columbus Park in Downtown Stamford and Cummings Park in Harbor Point to offer more than 200 free classes across the tri-state area this summer.

This outdoor fitness series will include classes in a wide range of modalities including Yoga, Amp’d (a popular high intensity interval training class) Bootcamp, Pilates, Barre and a Family Fit class for family members of all ages.
“Our complimentary fitness series is targeted towards individuals that have not had access to training over the past year,” commented David Tewksbury, President of Chelsea Piers Fitness. “We know that fitness is a mental and physical outlet for many adults, and the pandemic severely inhibited people’s access to that. We feel that offering free outdoor programming for all members of our community, is an opportunity to get CT and NY residents back on track with their fitness and wellness regimens. Being able to give back to the community that has supported us for so many years is so important to us and we hope this is the first step towards recovery and normalcy.”
