FCBuzz Weekend: Greenwich Library Reopens, Art, Broadway, Roaring 20’s Lawn Party and MORE!

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.

There are a number of great exhibitions now on around our region. The gorgeous Flinn Gallery in the newly renovated Greenwich Library re-opens after the pandemic with a book-art exhibit, Not By the Book, that will knock your socks off! Four artists work their magic with books. Ridgefield artist (and CAFC member) Chris Perry using altered and handmade books to convey different forms of water and its effect on other things, along the way cutting thousands of pieces of paper, all by hand, during the course of making his sculptures. Other artists include Shiela Hale, Andrew Sovjani and Erin Walrath. 10am-5pm every day.

Continuing at The Norwalk Art Space is a show of work by Easton artist Duvian Montoya and his internationally-known mentor, photorealist Robert Cottingham now living in Newtown. On Sunday, 1-3pm, come hear a conversation between the two of them about their working relationship and the connections between their work. Moderated by CAFC’s David Green.

If you visit The Norwalk Art Space, stop by the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, just across the road in Mathews Park for its COMFORT/(DIS)COMFORT exhibition of very high-charged work by 6 printmakers dealing with the unease, and other emotional responses to our new relationship with people, as a result of COVID-19. Tuesday–Saturday 9am–5pm, Sunday 12pm–5pm

Are you missing the theatre? Head on over to Stamford’s Curtain Call Theatre this weekend and next for the astonishing Broadway musical 1776, winner of 3 Tony Awards. With quick-witted dialogue and a playful score, 1776 dramatizes the impassioned debates of Philadelphia’s Second Continental Congress.

See an accomplished one-woman show in a beautiful courtyard at the Greenwich Theatre Company: Kimberly Wilson gives her celebrated performance A Journey, tracing eight Black women through eight pivotal generations in song, movement and monologue.

As for music, enjoy a Roaring 20’s Lawn Party outside on Saturday, 2-6pm at the Weston Historical Society with The Vince Giordano Traditional Jazz Ensemble, a Grammy-award winning 7-piece jazz ensemble that has played in New York nightclubs, appeared in films such as The Cotton Club, and played concerts such as Jazz At Lincoln Center for the past four decades.

Then Saturday at 7pm, at the wonderfully renovated SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield, experience The Doo-Wop Project: Trace the evolution of Doo Wop from the class sound of five guys singing harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio at this evening of song, featuring stars of Broadway’s "Jersey Boys," "Motown: The Musical" and "A Bronx Tale."
