Each week, look for a listing of weekend events and activities. The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.

There’s nothing like music and dance in the great outdoors, and this weekend is filled with options for just that! Of course, there are plenty of indoor choices as well – art receptions, concerts, cabaret shows, and more!

Chris Rowlands Live at Beardsley Zoo, Bridgeport 

Friday, July 29, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm & 3:00 pm 

See animals come to life through song, dance, puppets, and colorful props. Starting on Friday and running through August 12th, visitors will be treated to the music, puppetry and fun of Chris Rowlands. Famous for getting everyone involved, Rowlands children are invited to wear fun hats and sing along with Rowlands on stage as he shares his self- penned songs. All Rowlands’ performances are free with paid admission to the Zoo. 

Twiddle Two-Day Festival at Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, Westport

Friday, July 29, 3:00 pm and Saturday, July 30, 1:00 pm

If you’re feeling like two days of a high energy mix of rock, jazz, bluegrass, reggae, and funk, then this event is for you. Twiddle and guests Mihali, EGGY, The Nth Power, and Dwight & Nicole will hit the stage at the Levitt for multiple sets. On Saturday at 1:00 pm, there will be an additional exclusive acoustic event by Twiddle for VIPs.

Scavenger Hunt Big Reveal! at Westport Museum for History and Culture

Saturday, July 30, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Grab a sweet treat and see the museum’s complete Westport history quilt, created with the 18 quilt squares of the scavenger hunt. Winners of the hunt will be selected, prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be served.

“The Razzle Dazzle of Chicago the Musical” at Music Theatre of Connecticut, Norwalk

Saturday, July 30, 8:00 pm

The fourth show of MTC's Hot Summer Nights cabaret celebrates CHICAGO with David Sabella performing the music of John Kander & Fred Ebb. Through story and song, and a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of “Chicago,” Sabella stars in the surprising role of “Mary Sunshine.”

Avidya Closing Reception at URSA Gallery,Bridgeport

Saturday, July 30, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This contemporary art show is a tribute to the basement-punk shows that nurtured adoration for alternative aesthetics, loved ones lost too young to addiction, loved ones who continue to conquer addiction, and the pharmaceutical companies who profited. A casual evening of perceptual expansion, confusion, and clarity, take a deeper dive into Avidya exhibiting artist Jeff Ostergren’s psyche with a special screening of his video work. Accompanied by intimate performances from musicians Steve Harlett and Stephen Longcoy. 

“Larger Than Life: The Ultimate Boyband Tribute" at Bijou Theatre, Bridgeport

Saturday, July 30, 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm 

Throw yourself back to the 90’s with over 40 Boyband songs by the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, New Kids On The Block, 98 Degrees, O-Town, Boyz II Men, One Direction and more! Step back a couple of decades more to the 70s with hits by The Jackson 5, Temptations, Four Seasons and other classic male groups! This is the only act of its kind featuring actual boy band singing, dancing, and costumes. 

Incendio at Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, Westport

Sunday, July 31, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Grab your lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to hear this Latin-based world-fusion band perform catchy melodies and dynamic arrangements, performing music from their new album of incendiary, original music. Free tickets can be claimed in advance online and may also be available at Box Office Window.

“Charles Ives Music Festival” at Keeler Tavern Garden House, Ridgefield

Monday, August 1, 6:30 pm

The festival kicks off its two-week series of education events and concerts with “Pulse,” an exploration of the use of folk music within concert and folk-influenced music as well as rhythm-oriented works throughout the last century of American concert music. Enjoy works by Alex Stephenson, Jennifer Higdon, William Grant Still, and Artist-Faculty member George Meyer, performed by a Festival Artist-Faculty String Quartet of Meyer, Chelsea Starbuck Smith, Jacob Shack, and Mitch Lyon.

Chris Isaak at The Ridgefield Playhouse!

Monday, August 1, 7:30 pm 

A GRAMMY nominated recording artist, songwriter and actor hits the Playhouse stage with 30+ years of success under his belt. Since breaking through with the smash hit “Wicked Game,” Isaak has served as “rockabilly’s greatest modern ambassador” (Rolling Stone). His music has a cinematic quality that led to a run of work with David Lynch and soundtrack credits on “Blue Velvet,” “True Romance” and “Eyes Wide Shut.”
